The Perfect Clean - 5 Places You Might Have Missed!

health and wellness home and living mental health organization spiritual health and wellness Dec 15, 2025

Is there anything better than having a perfectly clean home, laundry all caught up, mirrors and floors gleaming, the counter tops all wiped off, the fresh scent of a candle burning, comfy joggers on, nowhere to be, nothing to do, and your favourite beverage in hand? I don’t think so.

Many years ago I can remember someone very close to me saying "After you have kids your home won't ever be this clean or organized you know"... and I responded,  "Oh, Yes it will."  Why?  Because that's the standard I have set for myself, my family, and my home.  Period.

Now this isn't about perfection, and no, you won't ever find those signs hanging in my house that say "Excuse the mess- kids are playing and making memories"...  Nope.  Cute and all, and those signs might make those who don't ever clean or are completely scattered and overwhelmed by life feel better about themselves, but not here.  Not in my house.

Sure, when the kids were younger, their play rooms did look like a little bomb had gone off, and yes, we are always making memories together, but I also have this tiny unwritten rule...

We save finger painting, slime, play dough, volcano explosions, food colouring, moon sand and all that other really messy shit for school/daycare/summer camps/other cool moms that actually enjoy that type of stuff...  My kids actually thrive and are way more happier, focused, and relaxed in a calm, clean, organized, and bright space.  Not only do my kids thrive and sleep better, but I thrive too.

I'll save the stories about the time I took my first born baby to a Baby Picasso and a Stroller Fit class... I learned my lessons 16 years ago.  Fuck. That. Shit.

But as a mother, there’s something almost magical about that moment when you have "the perfect clean." The world feels quieter, your shoulders drop, your breath deepens and the space around you finally matches the internal calm and peace you carry within.  There's also something peaceful about entering your children's bedrooms and they too have embraced a clean, organized, calm and serene environment.  They actually enjoy looking after their things, making their beds, organizing their clostes, and picking up after themselves without you having to ask.

A clean home isn’t just about appearances, it’s an experience, a standard of living, and it's an extension of who you really are on the inside.  Not to mention when you are in a clean and organized home you are way more focused and productive too.  You can accomplish way more in a fraction of the time because you're not so distracted.

Clean Is a Feeling, Not a Chore

We often think of cleaning as something we have to do, but when you shift your perspective, it becomes something you get to do.  A simple, clean, organized home is deeply spiritual in its own way.  When clutter is cleared and surfaces are reset, it’s as if mental noise dissolves alongside the dust and you bring new fresh energy into your home.

In Zen monasteries, cleaning is considered as important as meditation.  There’s a famous Zen teaching:  “Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”  Cleaning falls into that same category of sacred, ordinary work.  The goal isn’t speed or perfection but presence.  Each movement is done deliberately, without rushing or distraction.

Do you want to know what else is cool?  In the blue zones around the world, the people who live the longest don't actually have rigid exercise routines.  They clean and do random things around the house and these days, I'd much prefer cleaning, organizing my home and enjoying the peace over training for a half marathon or deadlifting 150 pounds thanks so much!

Dust isn’t seen as an enemy, but rather it’s a teacher.  If dust returns, it simply means life is happening and the act of cleaning becomes a way to practice acceptance and humility.  Every item put back where it belongs removes a tiny bit of decision fatigue. Every wiped surface restores a sense of control and intention. Every item you release that you no longer need or use makes room for something new to enter.  You feel lighter, freer, more grounded, and the energy in your home is completely elevated.

Your home holds your emotions, your stress, your rest, and your joy so when it's clean and cared for, it supports you back.  It becomes a peaceful sanctuary instead of another thing demanding your attention.

The Energy Shift of a Reset Space

There’s a reason so many people clean during moments of transition, new seasons, emotional shifts, fresh starts. Cleaning creates movement. It clears stagnant energy and makes room for new ideas, better moods, and deeper rest.  A perfectly clean home doesn’t mean sterile or showroom-perfect.  It means intentional, peaceful and functional.  It's a place where everything feels easier and lighter.  It's a happy place where you love to be.  Making coffee, folding laundry, lighting a candle at the end of the day is pure enjoyment and sometimes, it’s the little overlooked details that make the biggest difference.

So to help you get your perfect clean on, I wanted to share with you 5 uncommon places you might have missed!  Even the cleanest homes can hide forgotten spots. Giving these areas a little love can instantly level up the entire feel of your space.

1. Inside Bathroom Drawers and Baseboards

We clean counters and sinks, but drawers often get ignored. Hair product spills, makeup dust, and mystery crumbs can build up fast. Empty them completely, wipe them down, and only put back what you actually use. It’s a small quick reset with a big payoff.  Baseboards quietly collect dust, dulling the entire room without you realizing why.  A quick wipe-down instantly makes your home look fresher and more polished, even if nothing else changes.

2. The Fridge

If you really want to know how clean a person is or how clean their home is, look inside their fridge!  Cleaning out your fridge can be a small but meaningful ritual. It’s more than clearing old leftovers, it’s a weekly reset. When you take everything out, wipe the shelves, and begin again, the space feels lighter and calmer, like a fresh inhale. What was once cluttered becomes intentional. Keeping things simple helps here. Clear containers let food be seen as it is, not hidden or forgotten, and glass bottles for juices or creamers bring a sense of ease and order. Grouping foods gently, leaving space instead of overfilling, creates a quiet balance. When your fridge feels clean and peaceful, it changes how you relate to it, you waste less, choose more mindfully, and treat nourishment with a little more care. Even the most ordinary spaces can support calm, beauty, and presence when they’re tended to with intention.

3. Light Switches & Door Handles

These are some of the most frequently touched spots in your home and one of the most overlooked. Cleaning them not only improves hygiene but also gives your space that subtle, truly-clean feeling and a clean home usually means vibrant health for everyone!

4. The Bottom of Trash Cans

Even with liners, trash cans can develop odours and sticky residue at the bottom. A quick scrub and disinfect can dramatically improve the overall scent of your home.

5. Under Furniture You Rarely Move

Beds, couches, and accent chairs trap dust and debris that affects air quality and energy flow. Pulling things out and cleaning underneath can make a room feel noticeably lighter and clearer.

The Afterglow of The Perfect Clean

Once everything is done, floors swept, surfaces shining, air fresh, you get to enjoy the best part. You light that candle. You slip into your joggers. You pour your favourite beverage, and you sit, fully present, in a space that feels calm, supportive, and completely yours.  That’s the perfect clean.  Not perfection for perfection’s sake, but peace you can feel in your bones.
