What if Doing Everything "Right" is Wrong?
Jul 07, 2026
I was morbidly obese as a kid, and I have maintained my weight for over 25 years without walking 10,000 steps a day.
Today, I am never sick, rarely catch a cold, never get the flu, never took the COVID shot, never got a flu shot, and I maybe go to the doctor once or twice every couple of years.
Usually just for a Pap test, a mammogram, routine blood work, or when I'm pregnant.
I get my period like clockwork every 28 days, my hormones are balanced, my digestion is completely fine, and I sleep like a rock... unless, of course, my husband is snoring.
Night sweats? Hot flashes? Nope.
Food noise? Like, WTF is that anyway? You mean to tell me your food is making noises… in your head? Like your banana is actually talking to you? C’mon. Never. Maybe you need to give your head a shake for that’s just a crock of loaded bullshit, if I'm being honest. Just another gimmick and someone trying to sell you things or prescribe things you don’t even need.
Never once did I think I had a "disease" because I was fat. Nope. That's just a label someone made up.
Obesity, body pain, disease, or illness is the effect of a deeper root cause.
That deeper issue is always fear.
The fear of being seen for who they truly are...
Deep within, they're hurt, scared, angry, they feel unsafe or unsupported, they never received the love they should have growing up, they were abused in some way, they're holding onto guilt, rejection, shame, blame, resentment, grief, hatred, unresolved mommy or daddy issues, or they were the emotional shock absorber for a chaotic home and felt everything.
Or...
They're just eating and drinking like a complete sack of shit and haven't moved their body or picked up a weight in years.
Take your pick.
The only thing I put into my body is a daily multivitamin... if I remember to.
But...
I used to do all the "right" and "trendy" things...
6-pack abs.
Timed nutrition.
Clean eating.
Fake boobs.
Tummy tuck.
Liposuction.
Working out 5–6 times a week.
2 L of water.
Perfect macros.
Supplements.
Gluten-free.
Dairy-free.
Carb cycling.
Fasting.
Matcha fucking lattes.
Green smoothies.
No sugar.
Extra fibre.
5 a.m. workouts.
Cold showers.
All the things...
But then the back pain, gut issues, food intolerances, and panic attacks started, and my body was like, "Fuck you."
I'm done here.
Do you want to know what actually works forever?
It's not forcing yourself to walk when you don't want to walk.
It's not forcing your body to lift heavier when what your body is really asking for is a nap.
It's not forcing yourself to do workouts you really hate.
It's not making yourself eat 30 g of protein for breakfast when all you want is a goddamn banana and a coffee with cream and sugar.
It's not taking 14,000 different pills, powders, and supplements and calling that a "wellness" plan.
It's not looking at yourself in the mirror and calling yourself mean names every single day.
It's not following someone else's made-up rules, meal plans, or exercise routines and treating your body like it's a machine.
It's not putting something into your body because you're fearful of getting sick or because some random politician or stupid commercial on TV told you to.
It's not forcing yourself to eat clean when what you really want is some Oreos, chicken nuggets, and French fries.
It's not continuing to hang around people who complain, who are negative, who talk about other people, and who bring you down.
It's not buying into all the bullshit you see posted on the internet that leads you to believe there's always something wrong with you.
It's not making yourself do something you don't want to do.
Ever.
It's actually sitting with yourself long enough to find out why you had a weight issue, body image issues, food issues, insecurities, or were downright miserable in the first place.
It's finding out why you never felt good enough, or who made you believe that you were unworthy and that it was all your fault.
It's sitting with your fears and having a little chit-chat with them.
It's sitting with yourself long enough to find out what, and who, is actually driving your actions.
Usually, it's a wound.
Not a healthy person, but a person who needed more love rather than more pressure to do more or be more than they already are.
Usually, it has nothing to do with food and everything to do with love.
You can't hate yourself into a better body or a better life.
You can't listen to everyone else and just do as you're told because someone said so.
But you can sit with yourself, love yourself, drink your coffee, truly listen to your own heart and soul, and follow that inner guidance system first.
And then, if you want to move after that...
Or eat some protein...
Or lift some weights...
Or wear a stupid weighted vest...
Or take a ridiculous cold plunge or an ice bath...
Or take a hike or hug a tree in the woods...
Sure.
Go nuts. Have fun with that.
But real health and happiness doesn't have anything to do with what you eat, how you move, what you look like, what you do, or what you put into your body...
Real transformation and lasting health and happiness is always spiritual, and that's an inside job.
