And Then I'd Be "Happy"

Have you ever thought to yourself, if only…

If only I lived somewhere else.

If only I had more money.

If only I had a better body.

If only I looked younger.

If only I was more stylish.

If only this thing didn’t happen to me.

If only I had more friends.

If only my kids were older.

...And then I’d be happy.

 

As if happiness is something that’s constantly riding on you doing something in order to achieve this lofty goal...

Like where you are right now is some miserable place of existence.

Well, that’s exactly what your mind is designed to do.

It keeps you in a state of anxiety, misery, and living hell until one day you decide to not play along with its games anymore.

No one is exempt from this form of suffering or these mind games.

No one wakes up suddenly and their whole life is perfect.

We are often taught to “think positive”, be “grateful”, and everything will be fine.

But what if being positive and being grateful isn’t working, and you’re tired of it?

What if you’ve done everything you’ve been told to do, and it’s simply not changing anything?

You still find yourself waking up tired, bored, negative, depressed, and miserable no matter how hard you try or no matter how “happy,” “positive,” “kind,” or “grateful” you are.

Are you just meant to accept that this is your life?

That yes…

You’re tired, bored, miserable, and negative, and that perhaps it’s okay to allow this part of you to exist without thinking you need to change or fix yourself.

That if you have any kind of exhaustion, misery, negativity, or boredom, that something is fundamentally wrong with you?

Perhaps that’s what’s wrong with the whole picture.

Trying to erase the dark parts so they don’t exist at all, and that’s simply not ever going to work.

For you can’t ever have light without the darkness, so if you’re expecting yourself to just be all light and love while never turning off the light, then you’ll eventually burn out.

Part of the process is accepting all parts of yourself.

The good, the bad, the ugly, and the miserable and negative parts of yourself too.

So if you find yourself waking up miserable and exhausted today. Cool.

If you find yourself happy and energized today. Cool.

If you find yourself negative and rude today. Cool.

If you find yourself positive and kind today. Cool.

If you find yourself confident today.  Cool.

If you find yourself fearful, scared, or insecure.  Cool

Each has their season and their reason and all can exist together.  

That’s the way it’s supposed to be, and for anyone else to tell you otherwise, they are full of fucking shit.
